Nancy "Nannie" Kutch

Nancy Kutch was born on May 4, 1862 in Parker County, Texas to Bolen Lafayette and Artamissia Melinda McElroy Kutch. She was the 4th child and second daughter born into the family. Eventually, Bolen and Artamissia had 8 children 2 girls and 6 boys, but only 1 girl and 2 boys lived to adulthood. Mary Jane Kutch was their first child. She was born July 24, 1855. Samuel Burleson Kutch was their second child born April 27, 1857. George Washington Kutch was born November 20, 1858. Nancy Kutch was born next. Soon after her birth she acquired the lifelong nickname of Nannie. Robert Monroe Kutch was the fifth child and third son. He was born on July 13, 1865 in Parker County, Texas. John Franklin Kutch was born May 25, 1869 in Parker County and died October 17, 1869. Lafayette Kutch was born in Parker County, Texas on February 13, 1875 and died February 16, 1875. Joseph Archibald Kutch was their last child who was born in Parker County, Texas on November 12, 1876.
Below is the 1860 census from Jack County, Texas. It was taken before Nannie Kutch was born. But it shows William Ribble as a neighbor of Bolen Lafayette Kutch.
B.L. Kutch lives next to his father and his father lives next door to the Ribble home.
1870 census of Parker County, Texas shows the Ribbles and Kutches were fairly close neighbors.
It shows Nannie as 7 years old.
In 1873 Bill Ribble came to Young County and took up a claim on the old Indian reservation, then went back for his bride. He was married to Miss Annie Davidson of Hood County on November 13, 1873, and soon afterward they moved to his claim, arriving on February 11, 1874.
Birth of Annie and Bill's first child, Thomas E. "Eddie" Ribble happened on July 18, 1874 in the log cabin.
Sorrow came to the Ribble home when Mrs. Ribble (Annie Davidson Ribble) was claimed by death on November 22, 1876, leaving a two-year-old son, Eddie. Annie was pregnant and the baby also died.
Two years later Mr. Ribble was married to Miss Nannie Kutch on September 16, 1878. their families lived close in Jack County, and also moved to Parker County when the massacres got so bad.

Bill built a bigger house beside the log cabin. Nannie raised Eddie as if he were her own. Nannie's father, Bolen Lafayette Kutch, and her grandfather, Daniel Kutch came to Texas around 1841 when it was part of Mexico. They lived in several areas of what would become Texas and finally settled in Jack and Parker county.

Above is the 1880 census which shows Nannie and Bill living between Bill's mother and his brother, Edward. Edd did own property close to Bill and Bill built a house for his mother, Susan, and sister, Ellen, very close to his log cabin.
Bill and Nannie had another son, Horace Lafayette Ribble, and three daughters, Ora, Josephine, and Della. They attended grade school at Henry Chapel. June 5, 1885, a daughter, Savilla, was born. She died July 4, 1885.

For several years Bill's elderly mother, Susan Hunter Ribble, and his "afflicted" sister, Ellen Ribble lived with him and Nannie. On July 27, 1912, Susanna Hunter Ribble died at 91. On July 28, 1912, Ellen Ribble died at 71. Since they had lived together all of Ellen's life the decision was made to bury them together.

On April 9, 1917, Nannie Kutch Ribble died of complications from gall bladder surgery. She is buried at Gooseneck Cemetery in the family section close to where her daughter, Savilla, is buried and where Bill's first wife, Annie Davidson Ribble.
